Introduction
Stichting Leiden European City of Science, Zijldijk 8, 2362 AE Warmond, the Netherlands (Leiden2022 or We) organizes the EU TalentOn for Young Career Researchers (the EU TalentOn). The EU TalentOn is an event for young talents, aged between 21 and 30 years old, from more than forty countries.
Leiden2022 takes your privacy very seriously. This Privacy policy has been prepared in line with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This Privacy policy is designed to help you to understand what personal data we collect about you and how we use and share it. Below we answer the basic questions regarding the processing of personal data by Leiden2022 in the light of Art. 13 and 14 of GDPR.

Leiden2022 is the data controller, who is responsible for processing of your personal data in compliance with the GDPR.

For what purposes and on what lawful basis does Leiden2022 process personal data?

What legitimate interest does Leiden2022 relies on?
Based on the legitimate interest, Leiden2022 may send marketing communications for which consent is not required under applicable law, in particular to EU TalentOn applicants or participants.
What type of data will be collected and used?
Leiden2022 only collects personal data that you have provided to us or based on your consent.
In application form for EU TalenOn Leiden2022 will collect and process following types of personal data:
- name, date of birth, title, email, phone number, city of residence, country of residence, work and education history and in case of suitable participants also passport number or national identity card number, expiration date, postal address, photo, work and education history, CV, any medical or dietary condition, information you exchange with us during communication (Participant’s personal data).
When you browse EU TalentOn website, Leiden2022 may collect and process the following personal data depending on how you choose to configure our cookie preference tool:
- Device data (IP, location, browser, pages viewed, links clicked and interaction on our website).
To whom do we make your personal data available?
To provide participants with accommodation and transport, Leiden2022 will need to pass some of Participant’s personal data on to the accommodation and transport provider.
Participant’s personal data will also be made available to some of our suppliers or partners processing such data according to our instructions, in particular:
– IT provider of registration platform (e.i. Lorentz Center)
– PLNT, Leiden centre for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Applicants and Participants’ personal data will be shared with the EU Commission, which supplied funds for organization of EU TalentOn and other services solution providers such as Google.
What countries do we transfer your personal data to?
In general, we try not to transfer personal data to third countries outside the European Economic Area (EU, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein).
However, we also use the services of some leading suppliers as the Google or Facebook, which are located in the United States of America (USA). USA is generally regarded as a third country that does not ensure an adequate level of protection and therefore the transfer of personal data to the US is carried out on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission:

Any transfer of personal data outside the EU and/or the European Economic Area is carried out only with strict compliance with GDPR.
What automated individual decisions do we make?
LEIDEN2022 does not make any decisions based solely on automated processing of personal data that would have any legal effects whatsoever, or that would affect you in any significant way.
How long do we store your personal data?
LEIDEN2022 will keep Contestant’s personal data as long as necessary for the purposes for which personal data are processed, at the latest until the end of 2023.
What other rights do you have as a data subject?
If we process your personal data on the basis of your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by sending an e-mail to: privacy@talenton.eu or by updating the online settings (you will find the link in every Leiden2022 marketing communication). Withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of the processing resulting from the consent prior to its revocation.
Nevertheless, you have the right to object the processing of personal data at any time on the basis of a legitimate as well as for the purposes of direct marketing, including profiling.
In addition to withdrawal of your consent, you have following rights:
• right to request access to personal data concerning you;
• right to request the correction of incorrect personal data concerning you;
• right to delete personal data;
• right to restrict the processing of personal data;
• right to transfer personal data in accordance with the terms of the GDPR;
